How to play Wordle

Wordle is a word-guessing game. You have six attempts to find a hidden five-letter word. After each guess, tiles turn green for correct letters in the right spot, yellow for correct letters in the wrong spot, and grey for letters not in the word. Use the clues to close in.

  1. 1 Type any valid five-letter word and press Enter.
  2. 2 Green means the letter is correct and in the right place.
  3. 3 Yellow means the letter is in the word but a different spot.
  4. 4 Grey means the letter is not in the word. Solve it within six guesses.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good Wordle starting word?

Open with a word rich in common vowels and consonants — such as CRANE, SLATE, or ADIEU — to reveal as much as possible on the first guess.

Do colours repeat for double letters?

Yes. Each position is scored independently, so a repeated letter can show green, yellow, and grey across your guesses.

Is there a daily word?

There is a daily mode with one shared word per day, plus an unlimited mode to play as many random rounds as you like.

How many guesses do I get?

Six. Each must be a valid five-letter word, and the feedback narrows the answer each time.
