How to play Minesweeper
Minesweeper is a logic puzzle on a grid hiding a set number of mines. Reveal a square and it shows how many mines touch it; use those numbers to deduce which squares are safe and which to flag. Clear every safe square without clicking a mine to win.
- 1 Left-click (or tap) a square to reveal it.
- 2 A number shows how many mines touch that square.
- 3 Right-click (or long-press) to flag a square you think hides a mine.
- 4 Reveal all safe squares to win; hitting a mine ends the game.
Frequently asked questions
How do you play Minesweeper?
Use the revealed numbers to work out where mines are. A "1" touching a single covered square means that square is a mine; the rest around it are safe.
What does a number mean?
It is the count of mines in the eight squares surrounding it. Comparing neighbouring numbers lets you deduce safe squares.
How do I flag a mine?
Right-click on desktop or long-press on mobile to place a flag, marking a square you believe is a mine.
Is the first click ever a mine?
No — the first square you open is always safe, so every game begins with a clue rather than an instant loss.
